Paint Peelers

Part of my photographic journey has led me to the joy of playing with perspectives. While wandering through the streets of São Paulo, Brazil, I began to notice how incredibly unique the street art was. Naturally, I started taking pictures of them and shortly after began to notice the same characters all around the city- some clearly very old, others quite new. While messing around on photoshop one night I realized I could give them a new life. I had the idea to digitally peel the paint off the walls and match them with photos from different parts of the city.

I brought along my (newly full spectrum converted) OM System TG6 point and shoot and had been doing a lot of infrared photography on this trip. The beauty of this medium was that I could further manipulate the colors and the environment around these characters to produce an otherworldly feel.

I spent a lot of time experimenting with what characters seemed fit in the scenes I had at hand. I’m honestly shocked that so many fit together so nicely.
